For decades, the vintage Tudor chronograph ref. 7149 remained a discontinued fan favorite in the brand’s archives. However, after Tudor’s worldwide relaunch in 2009 and subsequent return to the United States in 2013, the sporty vintage chronograph with its distinct 1970s design details has been receiving some mainstream attention. Also, a major factor in this is Tudor’s modern Heritage Chrono collection, which was released in 2023 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the company’s first chronograph.

Similar to the original vintage Tudor Chronograph 7149, the modern Tudor Heritage Chrono is available in either black or blue configurations, although the two models do have a few other minor design differences beyond the color of the dial and bezel. However luxury replica watches, the modern Tudor Heritage Chronograph, despite its vintage styling, is a thoroughly modern timepiece with a sapphire crystal and automatic movement, rather than the acrylic crystal and manual winding movement found in the original 1970s Tudor 7149 Chronograph. Also, unlike the vintage 7149 model, which featured Rolex’s signature cyclops magnifying glass at the somewhat unusual 6 o’clock position, the modern Tudor Heritage Chronograph offers a more modern flat sapphire crystal with a date window completely devoid of a magnifying glass. In addition, while the design of the chronograph and hour markers on the representative model is slightly different from the older model, which came with a fixed tachymeter bezel in black or blue acrylic, the modern Tudor Heritage Chrono has a bezel that rotates in both directions and includes an aluminum insert marked with a 12-hour scale.

With all of this in mind, while modern Tudor Heritage Chrono watches remain relatively affordable and can often be found on the pre-owned market equipped with two dial colors for well under $5,000, vintage Tudor 7149 Chronograph swiss replica watches are much more expensive, depending on color, provenance and overall condition, and whether or not they still have their original boxes and documentation. Currently available examples range from $15,000 to $50,000. While Tudor is Rolex’s little brother, and many of the brand’s models are intended to be more affordable alternatives to those produced by its big brother, the Tudor Chronograph 7149 offers a funky and vintage-themed design that has no one identical place in Rolex’s catalog – past or present – and that’s what makes it a favorite among today’s vintage Tudor collectors.
