2022 Luxury Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 50th Anniversary
The Royal Oak is always Audemars Piguet’s most popular and successful watch. Designed by Gerald Genta and first commissioned in 1972, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is the original stainless steel luxury sports watch, and this year marks its 50th anniversary. Given the half-century milestone, everyone expected Audemars Piguet to have big plans for the collection in 2022, and the historic Swiss watchmaker didn’t disappoint. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak, Audemars Piguet has not only released a new watch but also announced a whole batch of new replica watches. Let’s see more details here.
Perhaps one of the most popular and famous new releases is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Model 16202. The previous Ref. 15202 was a longtime favorite of many collectors, and this new model offers much of the same look and feel with its ultra-thin 39mm case. However, it features a slightly updated dial and a brand new movement that improves on its predecessor with a quick-setting date and longer power reserve.
In spite of the new movement, the exterior dimensions remain the same, which is quite impressive considering that the new movement is slightly larger than its predecessor. A total of four new versions of the AP Royal Oak 16202 are available: stainless steel with blue dial, pink gold with anthracite dial, yellow gold with anthracite dial, and platinum with anthracite green dial.
The overall format of the new AP Royal Oak Chronograph is very similar to its predecessor, which even continues the same movement as before. However, the new generation features a number of improvements, including a new dial color, and improved caseback, and an updated bracelet with thinner links that better accentuate its tapered shape.
In addition to the new full-size “Jumbo” model, Audemars Piguet has also unveiled a new mid-size 37 mm Royal Oak, model 15550. Available in stainless steel, pink gold, and two-tone, the new Royal Oak 37 mm features a wider bevel to better accentuate its case finishing, as well as a slightly more refined version of the model’s signature strap. Inside, the new 37 mm AP Royal Oak also benefits from an update, as it is now powered by the 5900 caliber, which is thinner and more frequent than its predecessor. While the 37mm version is only 2mm smaller than the full-size “Jumbo” model, the difference on the wrist is quite noticeable and it significantly increases the number of people who can wear the iconic Royal Oak style.
In all, there are two new Royal Oak skeleton fake watches(available in steel or rose gold) and three new flying tourbillon models, while the skeleton flying tourbillon model is only available in stainless steel. While the “Jumbo” ref. maybe the most talked-about newcomer, this skeleton and flying tourbillon models represent some of the finest and most exceptional interpretations of Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak classics.
